Eddie Dean Hess, 72, Vinton, Ohio (Alice Community) passed away due to complications battling cancer July 16, 2016 at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia. He joins his true love, his wife Stella (Ward) Hess in Glory Land and rests in the arms of their Lord and Savior. They were married in Bidwell, Ohio July 22, 1961 and this year they would have celebrated fifty-five years together. 

Eddie was a Welder/Mechanic by trade who was injured on the job in 1977 but was always willing to help anyone who needed it.  He was an outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and gardening and he always respected and cared for animals.  He also taught his family how to be good stewards over the animals and the land.    

Eddie was born November 19, 1943 in Meta, Kentucky to the late James Harvey and Nancy (Thacker) Hess.  He is survived by his children Bertha Fay (Eddie) Kinner; James Dean (Cindy) Hess and Chester Lee (Rebecca) Hess, all of Vinton; eight grandchildren: Keith (Samantha) Stout; Leah Stout; Amber, Beverly, Cameron, Tyler, Allison and Landyn Hess and great-grandson, Colton James Stout.

In addition, he is survived by a brother and four sisters:  Emogene (Dewey) Craig, Jamestown, Ohio; Ottis (Shelia) Hess, Sydney, Kentucky; Ruth (Oscar) Marcum, Fort Gay, West Virginia; Josephine Stiltner, Kimper, Kentucky and Ann Sellers, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; a brother-in-law, Woody Marcum, Crum, West Virginia and a special aunt, Angeline (Thacker) Ward, Vinton, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Ward Hess, May 20, 2016; sister, Elsie Marcum and brother, Lee Hess.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday July 22, 2016 in His Way Community Church, Vinton with Rev. Heath Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Ward Family Cemetery, Vinton.  Friends may call at His Way Community Church Thursday 5:00–8:00 PM. The McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel, is honored to serve the Hess family.
