Robert M. Underwood

Robert M. Underwood, 80, Bidwell, Ohio passed away at his residence Monday, September 28, 2015 following a brief illness. He was born February 2, 1935, the son of the late Augustus "A.C." and Merle Mary (Centers) Underwood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Orlena Cantrell Underwood October 27, 2014; his sister, Virginia Riedel and four nephews.

Robert was a former coal miner, worked at the Porter Exxon Service Station for several years and retired from the Gallia County Local Schools. He was a Korean Conflict Veteran where he served as a paratrooper with the 187th Regiment Combat Team from the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles, 82nd Division. He was of Baptist faith.

Survivors are a step-son, James Lee (Donna Marie) Porter, Lancaster, Pennsylvannia; three sisters: Jackie (Russell) Green, Mann, West Virginia; Betty (Paul) Hollingshead, Vinton, Ohio and Sharon (Doyle) Saunders, Bidwell, Ohio as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel, is honored to assist the family in carrying out Robert's wishes that there be no visitation or funeral services. Cremation will be followed by interment in the Vinton Memorial Park, Vinton, Ohio at the convenience of the family.

Memorial Gifts in Robert's memory may be given to the Gallia County Senior Resource Center, 1167 S R 160, Gallipolis, Ohio 45631, where he had served for the past eighteen years.
