Ethel Sallee Obituary

Ethel May Sallee, 76, Vinton, Ohio passed away Saturday July 20, 2019 at Kimes’ Nursing Rehabilitation Center, Athens, Ohio, surrounded by her husband and family members. Ethel May was born February 1, 1943 at Parkersburg, West Virginia, to the late Robert Lee and Flora Lavella (Criss) Edman. She was a graduate of Parkersburg High School in 1962. In 1992, she graduated from the LPN Program at Buckeye Hills Career Center. She was employed as an LPN at Four Winds Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and then at Holzer Medical Center on the Rehabilitation Unit.

Ethel May is survived by her devoted husband and “best friend for life”, Marvin L. Sallee, and they were married for 56 years. She served beside Marvin in ministry for many years, volunteering in many roles such as children’s ministry, Sunday School Teacher, music ministry and other areas as needed.

She is also survived by one son, Brian (Rachel) Sallee, Vinton, Ohio and three daughters: Debbie (Keith) Eleam, Becky (Chester) Hess and Sarah (Eric) Thornton, all of Vinton, Ohio; ten grandchildren: Kimberly Sallee, Aaron Sallee, Abbie Eleam, Beverly Hess, Andrew Eleam, Cameron Hess, Allison Hess, Kaden Thornton, Landyn Hess and Kolton Thornton; three sisters: Jane Willison, Ruth (Jim) Smith and Sue (Bill) Copeland; one brother, Jim Lee (Linda) Edman and other extended family members.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by infant daughter, Beverly Ann Sallee; two brothers, Robert and Frank Edman and three sisters: Lanore Sims, Lavella and Nancy Edman.

Ethel May devoted her life to loving God and her family. She was saved at the age of 11, striving to serve Him each day. Most recently, she gathered with other believers for worship at Elizabeth Chapel in Gallipolis, Ohio. She is known as a Proverbs 31 Woman who loved her husband, children and grandchildren with all her heart. She was the happiest when her family was gathered around her and was greatly loved by her family in return – indeed, her children rise up and call her blessed.

The family would like to express their appreciation for your words of love and kindness during this time. Special thanks to Dr. Harold Ayers, her physician for more than twenty-one years, the staff of Kimes’ Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Hospice of Kimes’ for the extraordinary care and compassion given to Ethel May over the last four months.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday July 24, 2019 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis with Pastor Chester Hess and Pastor Randy Carnes, co-officiates. Burial will follow in Vinton Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday 5:00-8:00 PM.
