Georgiana (McCarty) Jenkins

Georgiana McCarty Jenkins, 93, Thurman, Ohio passed away Thursday, November 7, 2019 in Arbors of Gallipolis, Gallipolis, Ohio. Born November 26, 1925 in Gallipolis, she was the daughter of the late Ray Douglas and Naomi Grace (Hamrick) McCarty. Along with her brother, Lutellis Ray McCarty, she was raised on a farm near Rodney, Ohio by their loving grandparents, aunts and uncles.

A retired schoolteacher in the Gallia County Local School District, she was active in several organizations which include Daughters of the American Revolution, Gallipolis Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma and a Fifty-year member of Simpson Chapel United Methodist Church, where she played the organ all those years.  She was married to Stephen Nelson Jenkins at her grandmothers’ home in Rodney, Ohio in 1946 and he preceded her in death August 2002.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Stephen L. Jenkins, Thurman, Ohio; five grandchildren: DeAne Jenkins; Stephanie Jenkins, Columbus, Ohio; Annie Garrison, Longmont, Colorado; Tami  Boyd, Middleport, Ohio and Renee Roof, Thurman, Ohio; son-in-law, Jerry L. Davis, Thurman, Ohio; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren as well as a multitude of great friends and neighbors who loved her dearly.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded by her daughter, Christine Ambler Davis and brother, Lutellis Ray McCarty.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Monday, November 11, 2019 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, Ohio with Pastor Dan Lamphier officiating. Burial will follow in the Mound Hill Cemetery, Gallipolis. Friends and family may call at the funeral home Monday 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM service time.
