J.D. Smith, 78, Bidwell, Ohio passed away at his home Saturday, September 28, 2019 surrounded by his family. A carpenter by trade, he was born August 2, 1941 in Knott County, Kentucky, son of the late Arnold and Margaret Pratt Smith.
J.D. is survived by his wife, Lynda Smith and one son, Darin (Leah) Smith, both of Bidwell, Ohio and four daughters: Lisa (Jimmy) Isaacs, Titusville, Florida; Lori (Pat) Prendergast, Petersburg, Virginia; Melissa Jones, Titusville, Florida and Cami Smith, Bidwell, Ohio; thirteen grandchildren: Jamie (Justin) Wasson and Nikki (Barry) Russell, Kyle and Dillon Prendergast, Corey and Jamey Dodson, Gunnar Jones, Brittany (Matt) Ray, Brianna (Shawn Welch) Smith, Brandon Smith, Kenzie Baker, Aubra Smith, Jansyn Smith and seven great-grandchildren: Isaac and Eli Russell, Parker Wasson, Phoenix and Sterling Ray, Paisley Smith and Sophie Welch.
He is also survived by four brothers and three sisters: M. Ray (June) Smith, Bidwell, Ohio; Clyde (Carol) Smith, Gallipolis, Ohio; Robert (Nella) Smith, Florida; Charles (Diana) Smith, Gallipolis, Ohio; Leora (Charles) Thaxton and Thelma Smith, both of Bidwell, Ohio and Florence (Dean) Petrie, Vinton, Ohio; sisters-in-law: Reta Smith, Pt. Pleasant, West Virginia; Glenna (Garland) Boston, Jackson, Ohio; Shirley Rogers, Gainesville, Georgia; Carol (Roger) Belville, Bidwell, Ohio and brother-in-law, Keith (Ernie) Smith, Bidwell, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, J.D. was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Smith.
J.D. was a member of the French City Baptist Church of Gallipolis, Ohio where Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, October 2, 2019 with Pastor Mark Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Baptist Cemetery, Rio Grande, Ohio. Family and friends may call at the French City Baptist Church prior to the Funeral service Wednesday 11:00–1:00 PM.
