James A. Barcus, 81, Thurman, Ohio went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Wednesday, March 22, 2017. The son of the late Homer Henry and Freda May (Boggs) Barcus, he was born November 29, 1935 at Gallipolis, Ohio. Jim was a graduate of Gallia Academy High School, Class of 1954. He served in the United States Air Force from 1954 until 1989. Upon retirement, he returned to Gallipolis and worked for Pierceton Trucking Company, retiring in 1998. He was a member of Vinton Baptist Church, Vinton, Ohio; Gallipolis American Legion Post 27 and Gallipolis VFW Post, 4464. He married Phyllis Jean Patterson Snodgrass who preceded him in death.
Jim is survived by his wife, Jessie Lee Fisher Barcus, Thurman, Ohio; two daughters: Lisa Ann Blair, Alcoa, Tennessee and Lori Jane (Tony) Servies, Greenback, Tennessee; stepdaughter, Carla Lively, Gallipolis, Ohio; stepsons: Shelby (Denise) Richards, Rio Grande, Ohio; Craig (Christy) Richards, Gallipolis, Ohio and Roger (Sally) Fisher, Leesburg, Ohio; two grandchildren: Dexter Blair and Emma Servies; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren and two brothers: Lucian E. (Linda) Barcus, Athens, Ohio and Palmer Ray (Lynn) Barcus, Richmond, Kentucky as well as sister-in-law, Mary Kennedy, Bowling Green, Ohio and brother-in-law, Ernest (Patti) Bobel, Scottsdale, Arizona.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Ruth Ann Barcus Brewer.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Sunday, March 26, 2017 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, 420 First Ave, Gallipolis, Ohio with Pastor Heath Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Ohio Valley Memory Gardens with Full Military Graveside Rites by the Vinton American Legion Post 161. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Saturday 4:00-7:00 PM.
