James Paul Burleson, 81, Thurman, Ohio passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at his residence. He was born August 15, 1936 at Cheshire, Ohio, son of the late Tollison Fount Burleson and Georgia Mable Kail Burleson. Jim was a teacher working 30 years for the Gallia County School System at North Gallia High School before retiring in 1992. After his retirement from teaching, Jim became a full-time farmer and did so until his death.  A United States Army Veteran, his memberships include: Farm Bureau, Grange, Farm Service Agency (of which he served as Committeeman), Centerville PTA and a lifetime member of the Gallia County Teachers Association and Ohio Retired Teachers Association as well as a lifetime member of the Little Kyger Congregational Christian Church, Cheshire, Ohio.

Jim married Janyce Peters Burleson August 16, 1959, who survives with their children: Jay (Sue) Burleson, Gallipolis, Ohio; Joy Burleson, Marysville, Ohio; Jeff (Michelle) Burleson, Fort Collins, Colorado; Justy Burleson, Thurman, Ohio and Judy (Bret) Little, Bidwell, Ohio and grandchildren: Mahalia Burleson, Chance Burleson, Colin Little, Evin Little, Brook Burleson, Duncan Burleson, Parker Burleson and Megin Little. Also surviving are brother, Kail (Phyllis) Burleson, Bidwell, Ohio; aunt, Ollie Burleson Morgan, Port Huron, Michigan and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Monday, November 13, 2017 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, Ohio with Evangelist Tim Gainer officiating. Burial will follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Cheshire, Ohio. Friends and family may call at the funeral home Monday 11:00 AM until the time of service.
