Alfred K. Cordell Sr., 81, Bidwell, Ohio passed away Saturday, June 6, 2009 in Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis. He was born October 23, 1927 in Morgan Center, Ohio, son of the late Owen Kerr Cordell and Sadie Miller Cordell.

He is survived by his wife Mary Cordell, Bidwell and eight children: Alfred Cordell Jr., Bidwell; Becky Dotson, Bidwell; Terry (Joseph) Loyd, Bidwell; Dinah (Charles) Peck, Bidwell; John (Brenda) Dotson, Gallipolis; Celia (William) Peck, Gallipolis; Janice (David) Boyd, Middleport and James Dotson, Cincinnati; special grandson, Michael Cordell, Bidwell; twenty-one grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and special friends, Tommy Dotson and Veneita Miller.

Alfred was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict and a former custodian for Gallia County Local Schools. He retired from GDC following thirty-two faithful years of service. He enjoyed working outside and mowing grass and was a passionate softball player where he was known as "Hook Slide". He was also a member of Morgan Bethel Church, Morgan Center, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Sadie Marie Cooper.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 Noon Thursday, June 11, 2009 at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton with Reverend Edward Buffington officiating. Burial will follow in the Morgan Bethel Cemetery with Full Military Rites conducted by the Gallia County Veterans Service Organizations. Friends and family may call at the funeral home Wednesday, June 10, 5:00-8:00 PM.
