Arlen Ray Owens

Arlen Ray Owens, 79, Bidwell, Ohio, went to be with the Lord at his residence on Sunday, February 26, 2012. He was born June 1, 1932 in Arnoldsburg, West Virginia, son of the late Eulalah Parsons Bennett.

A 1950 graduate of Vinton High School, he was retired from the University of Rio Grande in 1994 where he had served as Manager for the University Book Store. Previously, he was employed at the Columbus Coated Fabrics and had also been a barber in the communities of Grove City and Rio Grande. He was a United States Army Veteran who served in the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Vinton American Legion Post 161 and the Meigs County DAV.

Arlen is survived by his wife, Ellen Camden Owens whom he married January 29, 1998. In addition, he is survived by his sons from his first marriage, the late Mary M. Lemley Owens Ferris: Arlen Ray Owens II and David Brian (Vicki) Owens, both of Rodney, Ohio; T.J. Owens, Rio Grande, Ohio and John Wesley (Jeanna) Owens, Covington, Kentucky and six grandchildren: Nick, Katey, Kelsey, Ben, Aaron and Xavier Owens. Their son, Gordon Wyatt Owens, preceded him in death.

He is also survived by a step-daughter, Susan Basham, Bidwell, and three brothers and four sisters: Larry (Connie) Bennett, Grove City, Ohio; Harry (Martha) Bennett, Earl (Judy) Bennett, and Betty Eberhard, all of Vinton, Ohio; Anna Bell Tomlinson, Columbus, Ohio; Marilyn Sue (Ed) Taft, Misawaka, Indiana; Deborah Ellen (Tom) Skinner, Eno, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 29, 2012 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel, with Pastor Fred Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Vinton Memorial Park where Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by Vinton American Legion Post 161.

Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 28, 2010 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM.
