Barbara "Gail" (Burgess) Smith

Barbara "Gail" Smith, 89, of Gallipolis, Ohio passed away peacefully Thursday, November 21, 2024, at her son's residence. Gail was born February 12, 1935, in Oak Hill, West Virginia, daughter of the late William and Beatrice (Smith) Burgess. She was employed as the secretary to the Superintendent of Gallipolis City Schools. A graduate of Rio Grande Community College, she then went on to teach Adult Business Education at Buckeye Hill Vocational School.

An active member of the community, she was involved in the Gallipolis Historical Society, Gallipolis Mother's Club, Mother's Singers and a member of Grace Methodist Church for fifty-six years.

Gail married Glenn A. Smith November 24, 1956, in Pikeville, Kentucky, and he precedes her in death December 30, 2019. To this union were born their surviving children: Michael (Stacey) Smith, Harrisville, West Virginia and Lisa Coriell, Portsmouth, Ohio; grandchildren: Brandon Smith, Lauren Coriell, Evan Coriell and five great-grandchildren.

Also missing Gail are brother, Billy (Carolyn) Burgess, Lawrenceburg, Kentucky and sister, Kathy (Steve) Moss, Oak Hill, West Virginia as well as special friends, Donna and Sally and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, G. David Smith and brother, Bennett Ross Burgess.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Monday, November 25, 2024, in Grace Methodist Church, 600 2nd Ave, Gallipolis, Ohio with Rev. Ray Kane and Rev. Kandy Nuce officiating. Entombment will follow in the Ohio Valley Memory Gardens, Gallipolis. Family and friends may visit the church Monday 12:00-1:00 PM. The McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis is honored to serve the Smith Family.
