Bessie Agnes (Smith) Kirby

Bessie A. Kirby, 92, Bidwell, Ohio passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Holzer Senior Care, Bidwell, Ohio. She was born in Gallia County, Ohio December 26, 1925 to the late William Aubra and Violet Sowards Smith. Bessie married Clarence V. Kirby, Sr. July 3, 1945 in Greenup, Kentucky and he preceded her in death January 26, 1999. She was a member of Harris Baptist Church, Bidwell, Ohio and enjoyed quilting with the ladies of Salem Baptist Church, Patriot, Ohio. Most of all, Bessie enjoyed spending time with her family.

Bessie is survived by son, Clarence V. "Chip" (Debbie) Kirby, Jr., Vinton, Ohio; daughters: Deborah (John) Roush, Bidwell, Ohio; Brenda Susan Wells, Columbus, Ohio and Joyce L. (Darrel) Young, Bidwell, Ohio; grandchildren: Chuck (Carla) Young, Cincinnati, Ohio; Brian (Brooke) Young, Bidwell, Ohio; Kevin (Hope) Young, Bidwell, Ohio; Larry (Fiancée, Teresa) Elkins, Columbus, Ohio; Leslie (Michele) Elkins, Columbus, Ohio; Bobby (Amanda) Roush, Cheshire, Ohio; Staci (Ross) McPherson, Middleport, Ohio; Kimberly (James) Cochrane, Bidwell, Ohio and Brandon Kirby, Gallipolis, Ohio; eighteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Keith (Ernestine) Smith, Bidwell, Ohio; sisters: Glenna (Garland) Boston, Jackson, Ohio; Shirley Rogers, Dahlonega, Georgia; Lynda (J. D.) Smith, Bidwell, Ohio and Carol (Roger) Belville, Bidwell, Ohio; sister-in-law, Helen Smith, Deltona, Florida as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

In addition to her parents and husband, Bessie was preceded in death by a son, Michael Kirby; brother, Carl Smith; sister, Ruth Kerr; son-in-law, Harold Wells Sr. and brothers-in-law, James Rogers and Denver Kerr.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Monday, June 18, 2018 at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel, with Pastor Jon Mollohan officiating. Entombment will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens.  Family and friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
