The Lord God called his humble servant, Bobby Gordon, 83, Gallipolis, Ohio from labor to reward on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Holzer Medical Center after an extensive illness. With peaceful serenity, he gently crossed over into the tender care of a gracious God.

He was one of six children born to the late Sherman Eagle Gordon and Melissa Lee Gordon on October 13, 1927 in Columbus, Ohio. He attended school at the Lincoln Colored School and worked for the Gallia County Engineers Office; was a mason, diesel mechanic, and a certified Master Mechanic, who retired from Southwestern Tile and Marble after 41 years of service. He served in the US Army where he received the United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Ribbon, Bronze Service Star, and a National Defense Medal. After retirement, he worked part-time for Haffelt's Mill Outlet, was an avid card player and golfer, as well as a gentle husband, father, grandfather and caring neighbor and friend.

Bobby leaves to honor his "going home" one son, Robert Dean (Sherry) Gordon; three grandchildren: Nathanial Alexander, Christopher Adam, and Matthew Avery Gordon, all of Gallipolis; and God Daughter, Beverly Hogan Long, Dayton, Ohio. Also surviving is one sister, Thelma (Sandy) Wade, Columbus; one brother, Roderick (Thelma) Gordon, Gallipolis; God Sister, Maryalice (John) Sunami, Columbus, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Irene Howard Gordon, whom he married August 12, 1951; an infant daughter; two sisters, Paulmenia Hutchinson and Madge Claridy; two brothers, Frank and Rudolph Gordon; and his God Parents, Dr. Henry and Dr. Jean Norman.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, March 13, 2011 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis with Rev. Gene Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Street Cemetery. Full Military Graveside service will be conducted by the Gallia County Veterans Service Organization. Friends and family may call at the funeral home 4:00-6:00 PM Saturday.

Traditionalists are welcome to send flowers, however, to truly honor Bobby, a challenge has been presented by his son to commit to a random act of kindness, preferably without recognition, for an unsuspecting person in need. That is what he most treasured about his father. Bobby's accolades are in the Lambs Book of Life, not on the lips of his neighbors or friends.
