Carl Leon Stollings

June 25, 1928 — December 24, 2006

Carl Leon Stollings, 78, Vinton, died at his home, Sunday, December 24, 2006, after fighting cancer for more than two years. He was born June 25, 1928, at Ottawa, West Virginia, son of the late Carl and Rosa Price Stollings. He was graduate of Madison (West Virginia) High School, attended the University of Rio Grande, and was a US Army Veteran, 1950-1953. He retired from Holzer Medical Center in 1991 where he served more than thirty years in the EKG Department. In addition he was a trained police officer employed by the Village of Vinton in the 1970's. He served as a volunteer Fireman in Vinton for many years and was a volunteer at Pleasant Valley Hospital for nearly ten years. His memberships included the Vinton American Legion Post 161, the Old Car Club of Gallipolis, Vinton Fellowhip Chapel and he sang in a Gospel Quartet for several years.

Leon is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Ludena Ellis Stollings; daughter, Letha (Gary) Pope, Vinton; son, Carl David Stollings, Patriot, Ohio; five grandchildren: Karena Pope Mollohan, Allen Pope and Sarah Pope all of Vinton; Joshua (Lisa) Stollings, Crown City, Ohio, and Jessica (Joshua) Childress, Addison, Ohio; three great-grandsons: Matthew Mollohan, Noah Stollings and Logan Childress; two brothers-in-law: Donald Price, Madison, West Virginia and Harold Mays, Ashland, Kentucky; and one sister-in-law, Rose Mary Ellis, Vinton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant grandchildren; brother, Freddie Lee Stollings; sister, Freda Stollings Mayo and a sister-in law, Bessie Stollings.

Leon will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday December 27, 2006 in Vinton Fellowship Chapel, 68 Keystone Rd, Vinton, with Pastor Paul Ring officiating. Burial will be in the Vinton Memorial Park. Militlary Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Vinton American Legion Post 161.Friends may call at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton, on Tuesday, 6:00-8:00 PM and at Fellowship Chapel on Wednesday morning, 10:00-11:00 AM.
