Charles L. "Charlie" Riedel, 81, Gallipolis, Ohio (formerly the Porter Community) passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2009 in the Winchester Place Nursing and Rehab Center, Canal Winchester, Ohio. He was born on May 26, 1927 in Yolyn, West Virginia, son of the late Albert and Leatha Cyphers Riedel.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran and had owned and operated the Texaco/Exxon Station in Porter for many years. He attended the United Pentecostal Church, Gallipolis and loved to golf and dance.
Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Underwood Riedel, and surviving this union are one daughter and two sons: Mary Edmonds, Groveport, Ohio, Charles (Sandra) Riedel II, Columbus, Ohio and Michael (Mary) Riedel, Gallipolis; five grandchildren: Elizabeth, Kimberly, Ashley, Alicia and Devon; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition, he is survived by his wife, Alta Hill Riedel; two sisters, Linnelle Pasco and Edwina Few, both of Gallipolis; several step-children and step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Also preceding him in death were brothers James and John; sisters: Thelma, Bobby Jean, Freda and son-in-law, James Edmonds.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, March 7, 2009 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton, with Rev. Calvin Minnis officiating. Burial will be in the Vinton Memorial Park where Full Military Rites will be conducted by the Vinton American Legion Post 161. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM.
