Damon Stapleton, 72, Pomeroy, passed away in Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis, Wednesday, December 17, 2003. He was born August 28, 1931, at Salt Rock, West Virginia, son of the late Luther and Mary Wheatley Stapleton. He was a retired construction worker and a member of the Waterloo F.&A.M. Lodge 532.
Damon is survived by his wife, Maxine Lee Stapleton; one son, Raymond (Jeree) Stapleton, Wilkesville; three daughters, Sharon (Kelly) Spencer, Fairborn; Kathy (Harry) Buck, Thurman, and Judy (Doug) Bird, Wellston; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; four step-children: Jimmy (Kim) Lee, Pomeroy; Brenda (Don) Guthrie, Pomeroy; Diane (Greg) Lewis, Clifton, West Virginia; and Greg (Kelly) Lee, Middleport; seven step-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Tom (Margaret) Stapleton, McArthur; and five sisters: Foe (Owens) Haynes, Sissonville; Frances (Larry) Anderson, Parkersburg, West Virginia; Jo (Pete) Fitch, Atlanta, Georgia; Hilda (Roscoe) Payne, Sissonville, West Virginia; and Myrtle Goble, Cincinnati.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Stapleton, one granddaughter, three brothers: Charles, Ed and Naamon Stapleton; and four sisters: Opal Lockerman, Audrey Comer, Anna Harbor, and Kathleen Johnston.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Fome, Vinton, with Brother Sonny McClure officiating. Burial will follow in the Marcum Cemetery near Wilkesville. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM Friday and 10:00-11:00 AM Saturday.
