Dayton Leroy Briggs, 83, Gallipolis, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2011 in Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis, Ohio. He was born July 12, 1927 in Jackson County, Ohio, son of the late Charles Briggs and Nellie Craddolph (Homer) Fultz. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving proudly in the World War II and the Korean War. He retired from the Ohio Valley Electrical Corp., Kyger Creek Station, and was a member of the Corinth Missionary Baptist Church, Centerpoint, Ohio, serving as a Deacon.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marian (Smith) Briggs, Gallipolis and four children: Arlene Botts, Columbus; Wanda Maldonado, Gallipolis; Dayton Leon Briggs, Florida; and Marsha (Brownie) Wilson, Gallipolis; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Loretta Holmes and Margaret Bunch; three brothers, Sonny (Sue) Fultz, Jim (Sue) Briggs and Paul Briggs and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Jane Briggs and five brothers, one sister and one great grandson.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 25, 2011 in the Corinth Missionary Baptist Church, Centerpoint, with Rev. Calvin Minnis, officiating. Burial will follow in Corinth Cemetery. Friends and family may call Tuesday, May 24, at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis 5:00 - 8:00 PM and Wednesday at the church one hour prior to service.
