Dennis Alvin Mitchell Sr., 49, Gallipolis passed away Monday, December 12, 2005 at Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis, due to a long illness. He was born May 4, 1956 in Gallipolis, the son of William Sr. and Mildred Dexter Mitchell. While attending school, he worked at the Gallipolis Library and Gallia Academy High School. He was a cook at Borden Burger, and a laborer at Central Soil, Stauffer Chemical Plant and Ames Department Store. He attended Gallia Academy High School until the 11th grade.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Kathern Howell Mitchell and two sons, Dennis (Carman) Mitchell Jr. and Dwight (Amber) Mitchell, both of Gallipolis; five grandchildren, Christina, Khalil, Keyshaun, Octavius and Jamil; three sisters, Margie (Howard) Moore, Atlanta, Georgia; Kathy (John) Garnes and Ramona Mitchell, both of Bidwell; three brothers, William (Sandra) Mitchell Jr. and Larry Mitchell, both of Bidwell, and Sammy Mitchell, Gallipolis.
He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Tammy Jones, Gallipolis and Darlene Gilmore, Columbus; three brothers-in-law: Earl (Elizabeth) Howell, Missouri; Larry (Bridget) Howell, Bidwell and Timmy Howell, Gallipolis; special friends, Thomas Westbrook, Bobby Williams, John Garnes, Chuckie Lewis, Jason Peaks and Frank Taylor; and many friends, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be noon Friday December 16, 2005 at Paint Creek Baptist Church in Gallipolis, with Pastor Gene Armstrong and Earl Howell officiating. Burial will be at Pine Street Cemetery, Gallipolis, with the Rev. Scott officiating. Friends may call at the church on Friday, one hour prior to services.
Arrangements are under the direction of the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home Wetherholt Chapel in Gallipolis.
Pallbearers are Thomas Westbrook, Andray Howell, Larry Howell Jr., James Gilmore, Brian Howell, Charles Lewis and Earl Howell. Honorary pallbearers are Antiawan Smith, Derek Armstrong and Jason Peaks.
