Donald Goodhue Davis, 93, Gallipolis, Ohio (formerly of Lima, Ohio) died Tuesday, April 15, 2014 in Holzer Assisted Living. He was born at Gallipolis October 22, 1920, son of the late Cleveland Davis and Aletha (Chick) Davis.

Don graduated from Gallia Academy in 1938 then enrolling at Ohio University, where he met his first wife of 51 years, Virginia Morris, who died in 1997. Upon his remarriage to Bess Grace Evans in 1998, he moved to Gallipolis.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corp during WWII and then transferred to Military Counter Intelligence. After serving his county, Don worked for Western and Southern Insurance Company. He later retired after working 26 years with Motorist Mutual Insurance Company in the Subrogation Department.

Don was active in his churches: Shawnee United Methodist Church, Lima; Peace United Methodist Church, Pickerington and Grace United Methodist Church, Gallipolis. He also enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts in Lima.

His hobbies were bird watching, gardening, being a huge Ohio State University fan and searching for family ancestors through the Gallia County Historical Society.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Morris, wife Bess Grace Evans, sister Jean (Vern) Bates, brothers Jerry (Jean) Davis and Tom (June) Davis.

He is survived by his loving family including his daughter Karen (Roger) Patterson and his son, Jeffrey (Lee Ann) Davis. There are five grandchildren and nine-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be conducted 12:30 PM Monday, April 21, 2014 in Peace United Methodist Church, Diley Road, Pickerington, Ohio. The McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, Ohio was honored to serve the Davis Family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a local Hospice or Pickerington Peace United Methodist Church. Don will be deeply missed by all.
