Rev. Earnest Gene Skaggs

Reverend Earnest Gene Skaggs, 85, Gallipolis, Ohio passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016 in Ohio State University – Wexner Center, Columbus, Ohio. Born October 23, 1930 at Lowmansville, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Brack and Maggie Hatfield Skaggs. A United States Army Veteran of the Korean War, he was a member and Associate Pastor of the Addison Freewill Baptist Church, Gallipolis, Ohio, where he also was a member of the choir and was very active in the nursing home ministry.

He married Charylene Bales September 9, 1950 at Cheshire, Ohio, who survives along with their children: Linda D. (Paul) Simmers, Pamela S. (John) Litchfield, Jerry L. Skaggs, Sherry J. (Gary) Mann and Rhonda R. (Ed) Mollohan; sixteen grandchildren and thirty-six great-grandchildren; sisters and brother: Annalee Knotts, Rossetta Bales, Eunice (Gary) Buck and Marvin (Debbie) Skaggs and sister-in-law, Ruth Skaggs.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers: Herman Skaggs, Edwin Skaggs, Arnold Skaggs and Floyd Skaggs.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Tuesday, September 27, 2016 in the Addison Freewill Baptist Church, 210 Addison Pike, Gallipolis, Ohio with Pastor Rick Barcus officiating. Full Military Rites will be conducted by the Gallia County Veterans Service Funeral Detail. Burial will follow in the White Oak Cemetery, Cheshire, Ohio. Friends and family may call at the church Tuesday 11:00 AM until the time of service.                                                               .
