Ernest "Bug" Thacker, Jr., Ewington, Ohio, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2003 in Pleasant Valley Hospital, Pt. Pleasant, West Virginia. He was a retired coal miner and U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. He attended the Fairview Church of Christ in Christian Union near Alice and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and the Vinton American Legion Post 161.
Bug, as he was known, was born November 7, 1929 at Ewington, son of the late Ernest Thacker and Lillian Boyce Thacker. He married Joan Snyder on April 9, 1957 in Ewington and she survives with one daughter: Diane Russell, Ewington; two grandchildren: Ryan Russell and Brittney Russell, Ewington; one sister: Gladys (Richard) Alabaugh, Parkersburg, West Virginia; and a sister-in-law, Dorcas White, Ewington.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday in the Fairview Church of Christ in Christian Union, Alice, with Rev. Denver McCarty and Rev. A.B. Maloy officiating. Burial will be in the Franklin Cemetery, Alice. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Vinton American Legion Post #161.
Friends may call at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton, on Tuesday, 6:00-9:00 P.M. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
