Eva Rae Back, 83, Gallipolis, Ohio died Saturday May 24, 2008 at her residence. Born September 23, 1924 in Switzer, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Elmer Hall Akers of Logan, West Virginia. Eva was a homemaker most of her life. In the 1940's, she worked for a Delaware based Department of Defense contractor, where she manufactured artillery shells during World War II. She enjoyed watching Nascar, Marshall Football, listening to gospel music, and playing Rook with her family.
Eva is survived by her eldest son, Thomas Lee Back of Gallipolis; two sisters, Ms. Elizabeth Juanita Crum, Camden, South Carolina and Ms. Freda Jean Williamson, Frazeysburg, Ohio; two grandsons, Air Force Master Sergeant Jerry L. (Penny) Back Jr., Rembert, South Carolina and Kevin J. Back, Hartford, West Virginia; great-granddaughter, Joy Lynn Back, Rembert, South Carolina; and three half-brothers and six-half sisters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Verlon Back and her youngest son, Jerry Back Sr.
The Back family would also like to give special recognition to Ms. Sandy Byer of Gallipolis, for her unwavering support over the last 15 years. She was considered the daughter Eva Rae never had. In addition, the family would like to thank Ms. Susan Lester, Fredda Browning, and Holzer Hospice for the wonderful around the clock care they provided in her final days.
Funeral services will be Wednesday May 28, 2008 at McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, 420 First Ave, Gallipolis with Pastor Andrew Parsons officiating. Burial will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens, Gallipolis. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday 6:00-8:00 PM.
