Francis Dye

August 24, 1930 — August 28, 2018

Gallipolis

Francis Dye, 88, Gallipolis, Ohio (formerly of Hammondsville, Ohio) passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 28, 2018 in Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis, Ohio. Born August 24, 1930 in Smithfield, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Francis and Mary Ann (Miller) Dye. Francis worked as a bricklayer at Dando Brick Yard in Hammondsville, Ohio before moving to Flint, Michigan, where he was employed at General Motors. Upon moving back to Ohio, he worked for Crucible Steel, Midland, Pennsylvania before becoming a school bus driver for Jefferson County School of Bright Promise, Steubenville, Ohio from which he retired in 1997.

A proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life which included game roosters and coon hunting and he enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball. In later years, he spent his time fishing with his grandchildren, doing crossword puzzles, was an avid reader and had a passion for country and bluegrass music. Above all, the moments he spent with his grandchildren and wife, being a "Pappy" and "Nanny", meant more to him than words can ever say. He loved and cherished each of them – and took every opportunity he could to show them just how much he did.

Francis married his "Angel", Mary Ann Lemire Dye, February 17, 1967 at Cumberland, Maryland, who preceded him in death October 14, 2010. To this union were born three daughters: Charlotte "Charlie" (Fred) Workman, Gallipolis, Ohio; Jody (Scott) Alvey, St. Clairsville, Ohio and Melissa "Missy" Dye, Gallipolis, Ohio; loving grandchildren: Ryan (Mikah Vaughn) Bertha, Cleveland, Ohio; Georganne "Georgie" Bertha, Gallipolis, Ohio; Jacob, Joshua and Katie Marie Alvey, all of St. Clairsville, Ohio; Zachary Workman, Gallipolis, Ohio and Madison Workman, Athens, Ohio.

In addition to his adoring wife, he was preceded in death by son, Allan Dye; brothers and sisters-in-law: Arlie and Naomi Dye, Paul and Ruth Dye, Raymond and Anna Dye and sister and brother-in-law, Mary Alice and Arthur Kindle; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hiram and Charlotte Lemire.

In accordance with his wishes, private Funeral services were held for his immediate family in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, Ohio. Burial followed in the Pine Grove Ridge Cemetery, Hammondsville, Ohio.
