George R. Violand, 74, Crown City, Ohio, passed away Thursday, September 30, 2004 at OSU Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio. He was born April 23, 1930 at Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania, son of Gladys Rahm Ruth, Upper Darby, Pennsylvania and the late George Violand.
A U.S. Army Veteran, he had served during the Korean Conflict as a Tech Sergeant. He was a retired Carpenter, serving with the Local #1595, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for twenty-five years. He later was employed by HUD as a Rehab Coordinator. He was a fifty year member of Ohio Valley Masonic Lodge #536 of Crown City and also a member of VFW Post #4464, Gallipolis, Ohio.
He married Joyce James Violand August 30, 1956 at Gallipolis, Ohio and she survives with one son, Vance R. Violand, Patriot, Ohio and Goddaughter, Sandra Rogers, Largo, Florida; two brothers: Robert George Violand, Virginia Beach, Virginia and Wilson Howard Ruth, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren: Gina (Eric) Rodgers, Elyria, Ohio; Nikki (Jeremy) Harrison, Pt. Pleasant, West Virginia; Katie Ingles, Patriot, Ohio and Emily Violand, Patriot, Ohio; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by sister, Patricia Stuardi; brother, Eugene Francis Ruth Jr; Step-father, Eugene Francis Ruth Sr. and Father-in-law, Frank James.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday, October 4, 2004 at McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, 420 First Ave, Gallipolis with Rev. Ralph Workman officiating. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery, Clay Township, Ohio. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by The Gallia County Veteran Service Organization. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, October 3, 2004 from 6:00-9:00 PM. Masonic services will be conducted Sunday at 8:45 PM.
