Gerald Mapes Spires

Gerald Mapes Spires, 100, Ewington Community, passed away in the Twin Maples Nursing Home, McArthur, Ohio on Friday, June 10, 2009. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and he had actively worked as a carpenter and heating-cooling installer through his ninety plus years. He was a member of the Vinton Baptist Church and he had recently celebrated his one-hundredth birthday.
Gerald was born December 21, 1908 in Eno, Ohio, son of the late Chancey Spires. He was preceded in death by his wives, Margarette Baird and Bell Polsley and a brother, Dennis Spires.
Surviving are two sisters-in-law, Anna Mae Graves, Albany, Ohio and Violet Fletcher, Radcliff, Ohio as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Monday in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton. Burial will follow in the Vinton Memorial Park with Military Graveside Rites to be conducted by the Vinton American Legion Post 161. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday 2:00-4:00 PM.
