Grady Lee Twyman, 89, Ewington, Ohio, went to be with the Lord in Holzer Senior Care Center, Bidwell, on Saturday, February 27, 2010. Born in Ewington on June 23, 1920, he was the son of the late Creed C. Twyman and Vesta Plummer Twyman.
From his Vinton High School days, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corp after which he served in the US Army during WWII. Grady was a lifelong farmer and was employed thirty years by the Engle Construction Company, McArthur, Ohio and in 1984, he retired from the Kokosing Construction Company, Columbus, Ohio where he was a heavy equipment operator.
He supported his church, community, and nation throughout his life and his memberships included the Ewington Church of Christ in Christian Union, Retired Operating Engineers, Huntington Grange, Arthritis Foundation, AARP, Gallia County Farm Bureau as well as the Vinton American Legion Post 161 where he had served as Commander, Veterans Forty and Eight.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty three years, R. Pearl Twyman; son, Ronald Twyman; grandson, Rodney Twyman; brother and sister, Lloyd Twyman and Dorothy Twyman.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Sloane Twyman, whom he married in 1994; two daughters, Judy C. (Clarence) Thompson, Pataskala, Ohio, and Cathy Lynn (Steve) Elliott, Thurman, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Joyce Twyman, Ewington, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Butch Thompson, Becky Reece, Grady Brett Thompson, Brandon Twyman, Dama Schultz, Bethany Weatherholt and Matthew Elliott; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; two step-sons, Robert (Becky) Sloane, Anderson, South Carolina and Christopher (Beth) Sloane, Columbus, Ohio; four step-grandchildren, three step-great-granchildren; one brother, George (Betty) Twyman, Ewington, Ohio and one sister, Beatrice Cremeens, Vinton, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, in the Church of Christ in Christian Union, Ewington with Reverend Delmar Dodrill and Reverend David Stulley officiating. Burial will follow in the Vinton Memorial Park where Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Vinton American Legion Post #161.
