Guy Monroe Garnes
October 18, 1947 — April 17, 2013
Guy Monroe Garnes, 65, Athens, Ohio passed away Wednesday, April 17 at his home. Born October 18, 1947 in Columbus, he was preceded in death by his father, Delbert C. Garnes and brother, Doug Hutchinson. He was a graduate of North Gallia High School where he was a standout in Track and Field and also the University of Charleston. Guy retired from AEP/Mountaineer Power Plant and as a MSGT with the USAF/WV Air National Guard. He was a Vietnam Veteran and enjoyed Ohio State athletics, roller skating and traveling.
He is survived by his loving mother, Virginia Garnes, Vinton, Ohio; daughter, Erica (Dr. Gregory) Conner; brothers: Dr. Frank (Joyce) Garnes, Charles Garnes, John (Kathy) Garnes and sister, Martha (Tony) Woodfork; cousin, Gloria Morrison and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton with Reverend Calvin Minnis officiating. Burial will follow in Morgan-Bethel Cemetery near Vinton with Military Graveside services by the Vinton American Legion #161. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM Saturday, April 20 at the funeral home.
