Harry M. Phillips, Gallipolis, went home to be with the Lord August 5, 2004 in Holzer Medical Center. He was born September 22, 1920 in Ottawa, West Virginia, to the late Webb and Eliza Syner Phillips. Harry was reared in Walton, West Virginia and lived in Gallia County since 1953. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific Theater.
He was a retired farmer and former employee of the Buckeye Rural Electric Company and the Carter & Evans Construction Company. He attended the Clark Chapel Church and loved helping his neighbors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William E. "Bill" and Thomas H. "Tom" Phillips and one sister, Mary O. Smith.
Harry was married May 27, 1950 in Hillsboro to Joyce Eakins and she survives. Also surviving are sister, Viola M. Phillips, Gallipolis; brother-in-law, Leslie Eakins, Hillsboro; nieces, Melva Loudermilk, Chrighton, West Virginia; Icy Martin, Rainelle, West Virginia and Rhonda Click, Leon, West Virginia; and two nephews, Curtis Smith, Rainelle and Pastor Jim Phillips, Charleston, West Virginia.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, August 7, 2004 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, 420 First Ave, Gallipolis, with Pastor Jim Phillips and Pastor Clyde Ferrell officiating. Burial will be in the Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Gallia County Veterans Service Organizations.
