Irene Elizabeth (Varney) Browning Scroggins

Irene Elizabeth Browning Scroggins, 89, Gallipolis, Ohio passed away peacefully at her home Sunday, July 25, 2021. Irene was born in Sarah Ann, West Virginia October 23, 1931 to the late Homer and Mary (Collins) Varney. She was a member of Rodney Pike Church of God. She worked in prison Ministry in Alabama. Irene was a Sunday School teacher most of her life, teaching all classes children to adult. She attended a five-year seminary class after which she taught the senior adult classes, and she was part of the Home Visitation Ministry for her church.

She is survived by her children: Arlene Holley, Gallipolis, Ohio; Donald (Janet) Browning, Bidwell, Ohio; David (Diann) Browning, Charlotte, North Carolina; Bert (Judy) Browning and James Browning, both of Gallipolis, Ohio and Tom (Casey) Scroggins, Birmingham, Alabama; stepchildren: Gail (Rueben) Squire, Montgomery, Alabama and Dwight (Judy) Scroggins, Wetumpka, Alabama; eighteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; brothers: Frank (Sandy) Varney, Memphis, Tennessee; Joe Varney, Harpers Ferry, West Virginia; sisters: Donna Jean Crawford, Medina, Ohio and Mary Ann Betz, Amarillo, Texas.

In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband's Roscoe Browning and John Scroggins; son, Roscoe Browning, Jr; stepson, Derwin Scroggins; brothers and sister: Arnold Varney, Raymond Varney, Charles Varney, Rosalee Rhoades and son-in-law, David Holley.

Private Funeral services will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Private Burial will be conducted in the Campaign Cemetery, Gallipolis, Ohio. Arrangements are under the direction of the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, Ohio who is honored to serve the Scroggins Family.
