Ishmael Smith

Ishmael Smith, 84, Vincent, Ohio (formerly of Bidwell, Ohio) passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024 in Parkersburg, West Virginia from injuries sustained in a car crash. The son of the late Willie and Mabel (Belcher) Smith, he was born March 3, 1940 in Gilbert, West Virginia. He retired from AEP Southern Ohio Coal Company in 1995 and was a member of Rutland Free Will Baptist Church. An ordained Pastor, he married Shirley Collins Smith April 26, 1961 in Lebanon, Virginia, who precedes him in death December 21, 2023.

To this union were born four children: Ishmael Jeffery (Tonya) Smith, Union Hall, Virginia; Brenda (Randy) Valentine, Vincent, Ohio; Linda (Donald) Edmonds, Pliny, West Virginia and Cindy (Shawn) Lambert, Langsville, Ohio. Also missing Ishmael are grandchildren: Ishmael Jeremiah Smith, Philip Smith, Jessica Miles, Jonathan Edmonds, Justin Edmonds, Josh Valentine, Felishia Valentine, Meghan Lambert, Clinton Lambert, Taylor Smith and Scott Smith; numerous great-grandchildren as well as sisters Jewel "Sis" White, Carolyn "Coop" Duesler, Tina "Tiny" Cook, Gloria "Debbie" Cline and brothers, Timmy Smith and Willie "June Bug" Smith, Jr.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded by brothers Dennis, Denver and Rosevelt Smith and infant sister, Barbara Smith.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Monday, April 22, 2024 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, Ohio with Junior Preston officiating. Entombment will follow in Meigs Memory Gardens, Pomeroy, Ohio. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Monday 12:00 PM until the service time.
