James D. Hogan, 74, Bidwell, passed away Monday, June 26, 2006 at his residence. He was born January 30, 1932 in Gallipolis, Ohio, son of the late Hurl P. and Goldie M. Stevens Hogan. A U.S. Marine Veteran, James was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. He had also served on various civil and social organizations including: Past President of the Emancipation Celebration, Community Action Agency, Ohio Regional Development and Commission, and the Ariel Theater Board. In addition, he organized and directed the Youth United for Christ.
James married Erma Smith Hogan April 19, 1969 and she survives him. He is also survived by a daughter, Beverly (Michael) Long, Dayton, Ohio; two sons: Bruce (Shirllynn) Hogan, Dunbar, West Virginia and Brent Hogan, Dayton, Ohio; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brothers: William (Martha) Hogan, Dayton, Ohio and Morris (Janet) Hogan, Rio Grande, Ohio; and sister-in-law: Mary Hogan, Dayton, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by an infant grandson and brother, Clarence Hogan.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday in the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Bidwell with Rev. Gene Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in the Pine St. Cemetery. Friends may call at the church Thursday 10:00-11:00 AM one hour prior to service. Arrangements are under the direction of McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, 420 First Ave, Gallipolis.
