James Melvin "Monk" Ramey
January 17, 1946 — June 4, 2011
James Melvin "Monk" Ramey, 65, Vinton, Ohio, passed away in Holzer Medical Center on Saturday morning, June 4, 2011 following a lengthy illness. He was a Vietnam Army Veteran and had retired from the Fournier Rubber and Supply Company, Columbus, prior to moving to Gallia County.
"Monk", as he was called, was born on January 17, 1946 in Lincoln County, West Virginia, son of the late Jennings and Alma Adkins Ramey. He married Barbara Oiler on March 2, 1968 in Vinton and she survives with four children and nine grandchildren: James (Becky) Ramey Jr., Centenary, Ohio, and children, Serena Holley, Betheny Lunsford and Dakota Lunsford; Michelle (Doug) Gilbert, Gallipolis, Ohio, and children, Tayla and Dalton Gilbert, and Cassie Baird; David (Stephanie) Ramey, Vinton, Ohio, and children David Allen Ramey Jr., and Christine Noel Ramey; Tim (Bree) Ramey, Cheshire, Ohio, and son, Jonathan Michael Ramey.
Also surviving are two brothers and three sisters: Curtis (Elizabeth) Ramey, Rio Grande, Ohio; Clifton Ramey, Georgia; Charlene (Fred) Rollins, Jackson, Ohio; Lori Ramey, Columbus, Ohio; Kathy (John) Bright, Summersville, Ohio; an uncle, Denver Adkins, Vinton, Ohio, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn and Earl Ramey.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday June 7, 2011 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton with Pastor Mickey Maynard officiating. Burial will follow in the Vinton Memorial Park where Military Graveside Services will be conducted by the Vinton American Legion Post 161. Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Monday 6:00-8:00 PM.
