James Lewis Wells

James Lewis Wells, 87, Ft. Pierce, Florida, passed away Monday, August 27, 2007, in the Nursing and Restorative Care Center, St. Lucie, Florida. He was born February 5, 1920, in Johnson County, Kentucky, son of the late Frank N. and Mary Thompson Wells. He was retired coal miner and member of United Mine Workers of America, Dist. 50; a US Air Force Veteran and a member of the Vinton American Legion Post 161; and had attended the Church of Christ.

James was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma Johnson Wells and second wife, Geneva P. Wells. In addition to his wives and parents, he was preceded in death by step-son, Leroy Pope, two brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by a son, Larry Wells, Monetta, South Carolina; daughter, Cary (Robert) Harless, Ft. Pierce, Florida; step-sons, Bobby Pope, Granville, Ohio, Arnold Pope, Newark, Ohio, and Johnny Pope, Kerr, Ohio; a step-daughter, Nancy (Bill) Johnson, Newark, Ohio; four grandchildren, eleven step-grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and great-great-grand and step-great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Hershel (Marline) Wells, Ashville, Ohio and one sister, Maysell Wells, Bypro, Kentucky.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 1, 2007, in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton, with brothers James and Danny Harless officiating. Burial will follow in Vinton Memorial Park. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Vinton American Legion Post 161. Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Friday, 5:00 - 8:00 PM.
