Jessie Lee (Bobel) Barcus

Jessie L. Barcus, 85, of Thurman, Ohio went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Saturday, August 3, 2024, in Holzer Assisted Living Center, Gallipolis, Ohio. Born October 13, 1938, at Bowling Green, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Ernest H. and Katherine E. (Finch) Bobel.

Jessie was a graduate of Haskins High School, Haskins, Ohio, Class of 1956. She attended Bowling Green University and graduated from Rio Grande College with a bachelor's degree in education. She taught school at Rock Hill Elementary, Otsego-Haskins School and Gallia County Local Schools – Cheshire/Kyger Creek and Addaville, retiring in 1996 with over 31 years of service and she loved all her students. She was a member of Haskins Federated Church and later Vinton Baptist Church, a life member of the Gallia County Retired Teachers Association, Ohio Retired Teachers Association, American Legion Auxiliary Post #27, VFW Auxiliary Post 4464 and DAV Auxiliary.

Jessie wanted to thank her wonderful family, friends and church family for providing love and encouragement over the years.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons: Shelby (Denise) Richards, Thurman, Ohio and Craig (Christy) Richards, Gallipolis, Ohio; grandchildren: Colby (Amber) Richards, Thurman, Ohio; Lyle (Molly) Richards, Vinton, Ohio and Tessie (Justin) Triplett, Cheshire, Ohio; great-grandchildren: Brooklyn, Jacklynn, Levi, Hunter, Brendon, Caroline, Holden, Jaylan, Kennedy, Maddi, Lauren and twins coming soon Baylor Ryan and Bexlee Kay.

Also surviving are sister and brother: Mary Kennedy, Bowling Green, Ohio and Ernest (Patti) Bobel, Scottsdale, Arizona; two brothers-in-law: Lucian E. (Linda) Barcus and Palmer Ray (Lynn) Barcus; father of her sons and former husband, Stanley (Georgie) Richards and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, Jessie was preceded by husbands Robert "Bob" Fisher and James "Jim" Barcus, grandson, Ryan Richards and brother-in-law, Mike Kennedy.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff and friends for their love and caring support at Holzer Assisted Living, Gallipolis, Ohio and Holzer Hospice Care.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, August 10, 2024, in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, with Pastor Heath Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Ohio Valley Memory Gardens, Gallipolis. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Saturday 11:00 AM-1:00 PM.
