Joe William Phillips, 82, Gallipolis, Ohio passed away in Four Winds Nursing Facility, Jackson, Ohio Sunday morning, November 24, 2013. He was born March 20, 1931 at Bidwell, Ohio, son of the late Carl and Winnie Topping Phillips. He was a retired AT&T Electrician; U.S. Navy Veteran, Korean Conflict; a member of American Legion Post; Pioneers of America and the NRA. Joe loved hunting and fishing, NASCAR Racing and ALL sports. He was a hunter of squirrel and ground hog, a good bowler and also loved to play pool.
He married Ruth Ann Camden October 1, 1978 in Reno, Nevada and she survives with daughters Janet Phillips, of Concord, California and River Phillips, Eureka, California. Also surviving are six step-children: Louise (Bud) Day, Columbus, Ohio; Cindy (Rick) Sexton, Bidwell, Ohio; Paula (Dan) Schaffner, Spring Creek, Nevada; Wilma (Brian) Murphy, Gallipolis, Ohio; Kim (J.R.) Ward, Gallipolis, Ohio and Randy (Tina) Gunnell, Hurricane, West Virginia.
Joe is survived by several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Jerry Phillips, Rodney, Ohio and several nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Haire and Marie Ellen Voreh.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, Ohio with Rev. Calvin Minnis officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Bidwell, Ohio. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday, November 26, 2013 1:00-3:00 PM and 5:00-7:00 PM.
Pallbearers include: Matt Cremeans, James Pratt, Wayne Spence, Jerry Ahlin, Steven Stewart, Robert Merrill and Honorary bearer Tommy Bays.
