John Thomas Coffee, 77, Vinton, Ohio, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011, following a battle with cancer. He was an avid farmer and he retired from the Bob Evans Sausage Plant following nineteen years of service. He attended the Vinton Baptist Church, where he was a volunteer for the Food Panty, and served eight years as a Raccoon Township Trustee.
He was born September 11, 1933, in Herndon, West Virginia, son of the late Gaylord and Virgie Snipes Coffee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Robert and Lora Ruth Coffee Deckard and a niece, Cathy Coffee.
He married Delores Ramey on February 10, 1960, at the Vinton Baptist Church in Vinton and she survives with two daughters: Vickie L. (John) Chaffin, and Cindy L. (Bryan) Hamilton, both of Vinton; six grandchildren, Heather (Sean) Laber, Portsmouth, Ohio; Craig Layne and fiancée Brittany Donahoe, Gallipolis, Ohio; David Paul Spires, Allie Beth, Lena Bryanne and Thomas Scott Hamilton, all of Vinton.
Also surviving are two brothers and two sisters, Okey E. (Phoebe) Coffee, Gallipolis, and Luke E. (Doris) Coffee, Vinton; Lola June McOmber, Redding, California and Louise (Kenny) Holcomb, Columbus, Ohio; a special niece reared in their home, Joan (Don) Nevaker, Millersville, Maryland and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Monday, February 28, 2011, in the Vinton Baptist Church, 11818 SR 160 Vinton, Ohio with Rev. Chester Hess and Rev. Heath Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Vinton Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church on Sunday, February 27, 5:00 - 8:00 PM.
