John Phillip Guthrie, Sr.

John Phillip Guthrie, Sr., 87, Vinton, Ohio went to be with the LORD Sunday, March 27, 2016. He was born March 8, 1929 in South Charleston, West Virginia to the late Sam and Della Edith (Mayes) Guthrie and he married Mary Jane (Lambert) Guthrie October 17, 1948. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers and sister: Clyde Guthrie, Oral Samuel Guthrie, Joseph Guthrie, Nellie Dotson and granddaughter, Sarah (Guthrie) Elder. He served 18 months in the United States Army and was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Bidwell, Ohio.

John is survived by his children: Brenda Loucks, Vinton, Ohio; John (Cricket) Guthrie, Jr., Taylor, Michigan; Richard (Susan) Guthrie, Richland, Washington; Michael (Patrizia) Guthrie, Pacific Palisades, California; Patricia (Craig) Wallace, Flat Rock, Michigan; grandchildren: Sylvia (James) Wagner and Sandra (Allen) Stephenson, both of Jackson, Michigan; John (Beth) Guthrie III, Saline Michigan; Matthew Guthrie, Wyandotte, Michigan; Jacob Guthrie, Gibraltar, Michigan; Amber Guthrie, Trenton, Michigan; Samuel (Julie) Guthrie, Richland, Washington; Christopher (Cassie) Wallace, Belleville, Michigan; John (Brenda) Wallace, Flat Rock, Michigan; Catrina (Anthony) Staats, Taylor, Michigan; 20 great-grandchildren and brother David (Kyle) Guthrie, St. Johns, Florida.

John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, 208 Main Street, Vinton, Ohio at 12:00 Noon Saturday, April 2, 2016 with Pastor James Lusher officiating. Visitation will be prior to service beginning at 11:00 AM.  Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery, Vinton, Ohio.
