John V. Jenkins, 87, Bidwell passed away Sunday morning, December 7, 2003 in VA Medical Center, Chillicothe. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and a WWII Army Veteran. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 27, Gallipolis; the D.A.V., Meigs Chapter 53, Cheshire; and he attended several churches in the Gallia County area.

John was born July 10, 1916 in Gallia County, son of the late James A. and Mintie VanKirk Jenkins. He was preceded in death by his wives, Mary Ella and  Reva Kemper Jenkins. Also, he was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by one son, Vernon (Lynda) Jenkins, Federal Way, Washington; five grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter Jenkins, Bidwell; two sisters, Olive Trimmer, Goshen, Indiana and Edria Emory, Zionsville, Indiana; four step-sons: Gary, David, and Greg Thacker, all of Marion and Kevin Thacker, Savannah, Georgia and eight step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton, with the Rev. Heath Jenkins officiating. Interment will be in the Vinton Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Gallia County Veterans Service Organization.
