John Owens, 64, Patriot, Ohio, died Thursday January 26, 2006 at Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis, Ohio, following a long and courageous battle with emphysema. He was born May 5, 1941 in Patriot, Ohio, son of the late Taulby and Lola (Moore) Owens of Patriot.
John was a Christian devoted to studying God's word. He attended Okey Chapel in Lawrence County, Ohio and was a farmer for many years.
He is survived by two sons, Paul Owens, Crown City, Ohio and Silas Owens, Patriot; a daughter and son-in-law, Myra and Michael Bush, Patriot; two stepdaughters and a son-in-law, Donna and Leland Wilson, Scottown, Ohio and Jeanette Wagner, Jackson, Ohio; two grandchildren, Jacob and Joshua Bush; two step-grandchildren, Jarvis and Nolan Wilson; sister, Virginia Owens, Crown City, with whom he shared a home the last year of his life; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Earline Owens, Midway, Texas and Jack and Shelba Owens, Gallipolis; a sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Leslie Mathias, South Carolina; sister-in-law, Aileen Whittaker; a special uncle and aunt, Treeman and Eileen Owens, Waterloo, Ohio; his former wife, Deloris (Wagner) Owens, Wellston, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lamar and Odell Whittaker and a nephew, Gregory L. Myers.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, January 30, 2006 at Salem Baptist Church, 4423 Nebo Road, Patriot. Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery. Friends may call 4:00-7:00 PM Sunday at McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, 420 First Ave, Gallipolis.
