John Thomas Skidmore passed away on May 1, 2026, at home in Fort Payne, Alabama, following a brief battle with cancer. He was born July 26, 1953, in Gallipolis, Ohio, to the late Paul and Lucille Skidmore.
John was a 1971 graduate of Gallia Academy High School and attended Rio Grande Community College. He retired from Southern Ohio Coal Company, Meigs Mine #2, April 3, 2003, after thirty-one plus years and was a member of United Mine Workers Local Union #1886. He was also a member of Broadway Baptist Church, Rainsville, Alabama. He loved The Ohio State Buckeye Football Team and was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Wamsley Skidmore and his daughter, Joy Skidmore (Alan Denney) of Gallipolis, Ohio; granddaughter, Sarah Skidmore, Richmond, Virginia; grandson, Nathaniel Skidmore and great-grandson, Ezra Skidmore of Delta, Alabama.
Also surviving are brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Roger Wamsley, Middleport, Ohio, Dixie Wamsley Leonard, Middleport, Ohio and Karen Skidmore, Gallipolis, Ohio.
He will be missed by his wife and daughter, who cared for him during his battle with cancer, as well as his neighbors, friends and relatives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Pat Skidmore.
At John's request, there will be no services.
