Joseph Arthur "Joey" Blazer Jr., 42, Northup, Ohio passed away unexpectedly Friday, October 1, 2004 at Daytona Beach, Florida. He was employed by the Jividen Power Equipment Company, Gallipolis, Ohio. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in Germany for three years and had previously been employed by Bob Evans Farms, Restaurant Division, for fifteen years. In 1994 he was honored by the Bob Evans Corporation as General Manager of the Year. He was also a member of the Simpson Chapel United Methodist Church, Rio Grande. Joey was a lively, courageous community minded man who had been involved with numerous activities in the Gallia County area for many years including being a leader for the local Boy Scout Troop. He was a 1980 Gallia Academy High School Graduate and an avid fisherman and hunter. Joey was born May 18, 1962 in Portland, Oregon, son of Sarah Tucker Blazer Hohman, Rio Grande, Ohio and the late Joseph Blazer Sr.
He married Sarah Jane Hood April 29, 1990 at Rio Grande and she survives with two sons, Joseph A. Blazer III, Pomeroy, Ohio and John Adam Blazer, Northup, Ohio; brother, James A. Blazer, Patriot, Ohio; sister, Judith (Robert) Loucks, Molalla, Oregon; step-father, Fritz Hohman, Rio Grande, Ohio and mother and father-in-law, Mary (Jack) Lane, Bidwell, Ohio and Robert (Janis) Hood, Oklahoma; sisters-in-law: Leah Fink, Mason, West Virginia; Lora (Charlie)Hester, Patriot, Ohio and Carey (J.R.) Wright, Bidwell, Ohio; step-brothers and sisters: Gregory Hohman, Jeffery Hohman, David Hohman and Marilee Bercik, all of Columbus, Ohio and Susan Ricker, Cathedral City, California; two special friends: Mike Bastiani, Gallipolis, Ohio and Barry Plymale, Bidwell, Ohio and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, October 7, 2004 at Simpson Chapel United Methodist Church, Rio Grande with Rev. Pat King officiating. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery. Full Military Rites will be conducted by The Gallia County Veterans Service Organizations. Friends may call at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, 420 First Ave, Gallipolis Wednesday 4:00-9:00 PM.
