Julia Elizabeth (Ogden) Tilton

December 26, 1921 — January 25, 2014

Our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, Julia Elizabeth Ogden Tilton, passed away in her sleep at home in Apalachin, New York January 25, 2014. She was 92.

She was born December 26, 1921 to Chester and Florence Ogden, in Bridgeton New Jersey. She is survived by her children - David Wesley Tilton of Albert Lea, Minnesota; Julia Ann Tilton of Woodbridge, Virginia; James Ogden Tilton of Apalachin, New York; and Carol Ann Bauman of Vinton, Ohio; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Tilton is also survived by her siblings: Chester Ogden of Linwood, New Jersey; Elizabeth Champion of Bridgeton, New Jersey; Albert Ogden of Ocean City, New Jersey; Mary Louise Barbose of Millville, New Jersey; and, Patricia De Wilde of Bridgeton, New Jersey.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Wesley Ewing Tilton, and by a grandson who died in infancy.

After graduating from Bridgeton High School at age 17, she began attending the Philadelphia Museum of Industrial Arts. She soon met her future husband Wesley who was attending the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. They were married April 26, 1940 in Media, Pennsylvania. They relocated to Ohio, where they raised their children. Later they spent many years happily traversing the United States in their RV, backpacking into the wilderness where Mrs. Tilton honed her skills in nature photography.

Mrs. Tilton developed her painting and photography skills throughout her life, winning numerous awards and serving as president of the Youngstown Photographic Society and secretary of the Youngstown Audubon Society. Her productions of photo-essays with music were shown throughout northeastern Ohio.

She was much loved by all who came in contact with her and will be greatly missed. Memories of her will continue to give joy to those left behind. And their joy is complete with the knowledge that she is in the loving arms of the Father.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, 208 Main Street, Vinton, Ohio 45686. Internment will follow immediately at the Vinton Memorial Park.
