Lonnie W. Burger, 85, Bidwell, Ohio passed away unexpectedly at his residence in Sarasota, Florida Thursday, January 23, 2003. He was a retired Superintendent, Ohio Department of Transportation and had previously been a distributor for the Quaker State Oil Company. He was WWII Air Force Veteran, a member of the VFW Post #4464 and American Legion Post #27, Gallipolis; the Gallia County Gun Club; attended the Trinity United Methodist Church, Porter and the Bethel Community Church, Sarasota. He had also served as Gallia County Commissioner.

He was born January 17, 1918 in Milton, West Virginia, son of the late Peter Burger and Annie Smith Burger. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannette Waugh Burger and from this union survives one daughter and her children: Polly Anna "Polly" Bowcott, Gallipolis, Ohio and Jamie Hudson and Eric Bowcott. Lonnie married Pearl Crabtree George Burger August 8, 1975 and she survives. Also surviving are one stepdaughter and two step-grandchildren: Anna Mae (Nick) Diniaco, Huntington, West Virginia and Chuck and Amy Diniaco; five brothers and sisters: Robert (Louise) Burger, Gallipolis, Ohio; Roy Burger, Bidwell, Ohio; Homer (Marietta) Burger, Columbus, Ohio; Joseph Hal Burger, Gallipolis, Ohio; Paul (Phyllis) Burger, Milton, West Virginia; Irene Hager, Pleasantville, Ohio and Marie Sheets, Lancaster, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Everett and Charles Luther Burger and one sister, Darlene Eads.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday January 28, 2003 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, with Rev. Pat King officiating. Interment will follow in the Mound Hill Cemetery, Gallipolis. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by Gallia County Service Organizations. Friends may call at the Funeral Home 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM.
