Irene M. Brannon, 99, former resident of Rio Grande, Ohio passed away at Holzer Assisted Living, Gallipolis Tuesday, August 1, 2006. She received a B.S. Degree, Elementary Education, University of Rio Grande and had taught school in Harrison County, Gallia County, Rio Grande, Gallipolis City and Columbus City Schools before her retirement in 1972 following thirty two years service. Her memberships included: Life Member and Past President, Ohio Retired Teachers Association; Gallia County Retired Teachers Association; the Calvary Baptist Church; Rio Grande Garden Club; life member, The Atwood Club, University of Rio Grande; Vinton OES 275; Gallia County Senior Citizens; and the Ole Tyme Chorus.

Mrs. Brannon was born October 5, 1906 in Bidwell, Ohio, daughter of the late Homer David Mossman and Rachel Topping Mossman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Brannon August 18, 1991; son, James Oliver Brannon; daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Saunders Brannon; an infant daughter, Betty Joe Brannon; and two great-grandchildren.

Surviving are daughter-in law, Rev. Nancy Brannon, Columbus, Ohio; three grandchildren: Dianna (Mike) McCullough, Columbus, Ohio; Judy (Rick) Meinhardt, Columbus, Ohio and James Gregory (Colleen) Brannon, Rock Hill, South Carolina and five great-grandchildren; one brother and one sister, Glen Wayne Mossman, Wisconsin and Betty Boling, Ashland, Kentucky and a special niece, Phyllis Taylor, Gallipolis.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday in the Calvary Baptist Church, 11457 State Route 588, Rio Grande, Ohio with Rev. Heath Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, Friday 6:00-8:00 PM.
