Marjorie Anne Evans

Marjorie Anne Fadely Evans passed away on September 20, 2026, at Holzer Senior Care Center in Gallipolis Ohio. She and her late husband, D. Wayne Evans, were longtime residents of Rio Grande where she was a member of the Simpson Chapel United Methodist Church.

Marjorie was born in Madison, Virginia to Sidney Hamilton Fadely and Claire Ona Pullin Fadely. She was a graduate of Rio Grande High School, attended Cedarville College, and received her B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Rio Grande College where she was elected Homecoming Queen in 1948. She later earned a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Wyoming. She had a long career as an elementary educator in Ohio Schools including Circleville, Ohio, where she served as an elementary education supervisor. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, honorary society for teachers.

While living in Circleville she was also recognized for her service as a Red Cross volunteer at Berger Hospital. Upon their retirement, Marjorie and Wayne moved back to Rio Grande, Ohio, where they continued their lifelong support of the University of Rio Grande. In addition to giving resources and time for the improvement of athletic facilities and programs, they could be spotted in the stands at many soccer, baseball, and basketball games.

Marjorie loved learning and excelled at her many varied interests including golf, music, quilting, and genealogy. She was an avid reader and researcher and her interest in Ohio history and Native American artifacts could be seen in the impressive collection of arrowheads she found walking the fields of Ohio. After retirement, she and Wayne traveled the country in their RV and visited many historical sites. She volunteered at the Gallia County Historical Society and dedicated much time and research to documenting her family’s long history in this country.

She is predeceased by her husband Wayne Evans, her sister Allegra Lee Fadely Shank of Tucson, Arizona, and her sister Virginia Hamilton Fadely Helms of St. Clairsville, Ohio. She is survived by many dear relatives on both sides of her family including many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews whose lives she enriched.
