Mary Kay Carter, 75, Gallipolis, Ohio died unexpectedly Saturday, June 4, 2016 after fighting a weak heart for many years. She was born Mary Kathryn James September 7, 1940 in Parkersburg, West Virginia to parents Archie Q. and Hazel (Corbitt) James. From her parents she developed a strong sense of Christian faith which was manifested through her service and friendships in the community. She was a graduate of Parkersburg High School, Bliss Business College and attended Rio Grande College. In Columbus, Ohio, she worked at the Bureau of Unemployment and OSU Hospital. It was in Columbus that she met her beloved husband of 53 years Bryson R. "Bud" Carter. They were married September 8, 1962 and together, they raised a family and served the community through Bud's job as an OSU Extension Agent and loyal membership at Grace United Methodist Church. Mary Kay worked at Holzer Hospital, Evan's Supermarkets, Inc. and Grace United Methodist Church Preschool. She also volunteered for PTA, Holzer Hospital and Meals-on-Wheels. Her proudest and most important role was as homemaker where she dedicated her life to being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

She is survived by her husband, Bryson R. "Bud" Carter; son, Kevin Scott Carter; daughter, Stephanie (Erik) Kelley; three grandchildren: Derek Diaz Carter, Carter Erik Kelley and Kathryn Stephanie Kelley; sister, Clara (John) Board, Belpre, Ohio; brother, Rev. Ronald (Annette) James, Cross Lanes, West Virginia and many adoring nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie Q. and Hazel (Corbitt) James and brother, John E. James.

Mary Kay was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Charter Member of the God Squad Sunday School class, Mary Bethany Circle and Christian Women's Club. Along with Bud, she was a Farm Bureau member. She was a lover of all animals, especially cats, and enjoyed supporting the Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) of Gallia County.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday, June 10, 2016 in Grace United Methodist Church, Gallipolis, Ohio with Pastor Bob Powell and Rev. Ronald James, officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery, Gallipolis. Friends and family may call at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Thursday June 9, 2016 5:00-7:00 PM and one hour prior to services at the church Friday.
