Melinda Joy "Mindy" Pope

Melinda Joy "Mindy" Pope, 32, Gallipolis, went to be with Jesus Tuesday, August 31, 2010. She was born November 28, 1977 in Gallipolis, daughter of George and Candace Pope of Bluffton, South Carolina, and formerly of the Bidwell Community. Mindy was a graduate of Gallia Academy and the University of Rio Grande, with a degree in Sports and Exercise studies. She was a gifted athlete whose talent of playing basketball earned her All-State Honors while attending Gallia Academy, and All-American Honors while attending Rio Grande, as well as a two time AAU All-American Award. She was a member of Vinton Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mindy will be missed by a sister, Kelly (Jeff) Taylor, Gallipolis and a brother, Ben (Tania) Pope, Atlanta, Georgia; a niece, Tessa, Atlanta, Georgia: her grandmother, Pearl Pope, Gallipolis and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Mindy was preceded in death by her grandfather, Raymond Pope and grandparents, Cash and Nelle Bahr.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, September 4, 2010 at the Vinton Baptist Church, with Rev. Chester Hess officiating. Burial will follow at St. Martin's Lutheran Cemetery, German Ridge Rd, Gallia County. Friends may call at the church from 11:00 AM until time of service. Arrangements are under the direction of the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis.
