Michael Darin McFarland, 57, of Bidwell, Ohio died Saturday, April 12, 2025, at his home following a lengthy illness. Born in El Reno, Oklahoma, he was the son of Sandra and Charlie McFarland, Bidwell.
A 1991 graduate of Marshall University, Michael received a degree in Archeology and continued his association with Marshall University while also teaching GED courses through the ABLE Program at Buckeye Hills Career Center.
His archeological passion was Native Americans, and he enjoyed excavating for cultural materials. A voracious reader, he enjoyed politics and daily news. Music was another passion, especially the Rolling Stones and the Doors. He enjoyed 70's TV shows, including "Kung Fu", Star Trek and Bruce Lee.
Michael was a brilliant and unique individual who was witty, funny and centered on the well-being of others. He persevered in the face of adversity without complaint. He loved all dogs, especially "White Foot", and porch sitting with friends.
He was very loved by all who knew him and will be deeply missed by his parents, Sandra and Charlie as well as his wife, Stephanie Sprague, "That Sprague Girl", Bidwell, Ohio; aunts: Peggy Callihan, Bidwell and Judy (Gary) Gannon, Denton, Texas; cousins: Andrew (Courtney) Gefre, Plano, Texas; Thomas (Stacy) McChesney, Alexandria, Virginia; Ernest (Anna Maria) Lefner, Flower Mound, Texas; Billy (Amanda) Zuend, Schenectady, New York; Kelly Gannon, New York and Herman and Allena Sprague and Family, Bidwell, Ohio.
Michael was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Robert and Wanda Atha and paternal grandparents, Bill and Anna McFarland.
A Gathering of Friends will be held Thursday, April 17, 2025, in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis from 5:00-7:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, Michaels wishes were a donation made in his memory to any animal shelter/rescue of your choice.
