Michael Patrick Vigue, 64, of Gallipolis, Ohio, died Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Holzer Medical Center. Born October 27, 1960, he grew up in Junction City, in Perry County, Ohio. Growing up, Mike wore many hats, including paper boy, track and cross country runner, Eagle Scout (Order of the Arrow and Vigil Honor), and all around good natured trouble maker.
Mike attended Marietta College and graduated from Miami University, later earning a masters at the University of Rio Grande. Mike was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman, backpacker, hunter and gardener - he was a Rocky Mountain wrangler, trail cook and big game guide. Mike was an art teacher for over 30 years at Gallia Academy.
Known as "Vig" to many, he was a self-taught bluegrass musician, accomplished in many different instruments - most notably the fiddle. Mike played with several bands over the years including Whitey's Wonders, Racoon Creek, Red Brush, and the Ollum Brothers. He sat in on many a square dance as an in-demand fiddler and played back-up on two albums. Mike was also an actor and musician in the stage production of "That was Bob" the life story of Bob Evans.
Mike is preceded in death by parents Ronald and Patricia Vigue. He is survived by brother and best friend, Ron Vigue, sister Marie (Kevin) Hickey, and nieces Emily (Eric Gundelfinger), Elizabeth, Olivia, and Siobhan, along with many cousins.
The family would like to extend special thanks to dear friends Barbara and Larry Shifflette, good neighbor, Jim Burns, along with nurse navigator Haylee Bachtel, RN, and the compassionate cancer care team at Holzer Hospital.
A Celebration of Life will be held from on Saturday, August 16, 2025 from 1:00-:400 PM at the French Art Colony, 530 1st Ave, Gallipolis, Ohio, for all who wish to remember Mike. Arrangements are under the direction of the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, who is honored to serve the Vigue Family.
