She was born July 11, 1910 in Springfield, Ohio, daughter of the late Sam James and Ida Lucas Viney. With this union there were three children: one brother, Frank Viney; two sisters, Minnie and Bessie Viney. Minnie attended Harrisburg Grade School and completed the sixth grade.
She met, fell in love and married Ralph Garnes on November 21, 1932.
