Nellie L. (Guthrie) Dotson

Nellie L. Dotson, 97, Gallipolis, Ohio passed away Saturday, November 30, 2013 at her residence. The daughter of the late Sam and Della (Mayes) Guthrie, she was born January 14, 1916 in South Charleston, West Virginia. Nellie married Charles Dotson December 20, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois and he preceded her in death May 21, 2003. She was a charter member of the Faith Baptist Church, Rodney, Ohio and she was a graduate of Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, Illinois; served as a missionary in the mountains of North Carolina and an elementary school teacher. She was a seamstress and avid gardener, hoeing her entire garden up to the age of 95. Nellie, at the age of 92, sewed over 5,000 fabric tote bags for Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Ministry.

She is survived by two sons, Richard (Beth) Dotson and David Dotson and two daughters, Rebecca (Dale) Lear and Edy (Dotson), all of Gallipolis; grandchildren: Barbara (Todd) Gunckle; Richard (Amelia) Dotson; Charles Dotson; Chris (Leighann) Dotson; Dusty (Kristy) Dotson; Jesse Lear; Lacey (Anthony) Langone; Lani Lear; Claire Dotson; Katherine Dotson and Eric Sheets; twelve great-grandchildren; two brothers, David (Kyle) Guthrie, Jacksonville, Florida and John Guthrie, Vinton, Ohio; sister-in-law, Pauline Dotson, Florida and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers Orrell, Joseph and one infant brother; daughter-in-law, Leslie Dotson; sisters-in-law, Mary and Winnie Guthrie.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Monday December 2, 2013 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis with Rev. Jim Lusher officiating. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery, near Rio Grande. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday one hour prior to service.
